James Anderson is set to resume his professional career for Lancashire in the upcoming 2025 season.
The 42-year-old will return for his boyhood club Lancashire having made himself available for the entire County Championship and T20 Blast campaigns.
His future in the game appeared uncertain after his final Test for England against West Indies at Lord’s in July.
Anderson finished an astonishing 188-match Test career with 704 wickets and 32 five-wicket hauls at an average of 26.46.
It is likely he will make his return in Lancashire’s first County Championship Division Two match against Middlesex at Lord’s on April 4, the same ground he enjoyed huge success across his international career.
Dale Benkenstein’s side will be looking to bounce back and gain promotion following an abysmal 2024 campaign.
Despite missing out a maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) deal at November’s Saudi Arabia mega auction, Anderson will make a surprising T20 comeback after 11 years away from the shortest format.
“I think part of him returning to T20 is being intrigued by how he’ll fare after a long break”, said Nick Friend, writer at The Cricketer.
“It might also be because he’s seen how the white ball has swung in recent years, making him think he’ll a decent force given his accuracy, range of skills and ability to move the ball both ways.
“If he is serious about decent franchise gigs, he needs some sort of recent record to go off.
“You couldn’t begrudge a 42-year-old who’s given so much to the game a couple of franchise contracts if they materialised.”
