Australia deliver brilliant bowling display to dismiss New Zealand for a meagre 179 on day two of the first Test at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
This was in response to the tourists first innings score of 383 all-out- Cameron Green picking up where he left off on day one to strike a magnificent 174 not-out.
Green, 24, and Hazlewood, 33, compiled a 116-run partnership for the tenth-wicket- an Australian record against the Black Caps.
In response, the hosts soon found themselves in deep trouble at 29-5 inside 18 overs as Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh and captain Pat Cummins claimed a wicket apiece.
New Zealand’s talisman Kane Williamson was also calamitously ran-out for a second-ball duck following an awful mix-up and collision with opener Will Young.
The middle-order duo of Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips resisted for an enterprising partnership of 84 in 86 deliveries, but the impressive Nathan Lyon sent Blundell packing when an inside edge looped to Travis Head at short-leg.
Scott Kuggeleijn fell two balls later as Lyon claimed his second, before Australia ended Glenn Phillips’ fine knock of 71 when he fell into the visitors’ short-ball trap and was caught by Starc at deep fine-leg.
Matt Henry entertained the Wellington crowd with a 34-ball 42, including four sixes, but the hosts will be disgruntled by some soft dismissals and a lack of substantial partnerships.
Off-spinner Nathan Lyon was pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/43.
Australia opted against the follow-on to bat again, though the Kiwis were able to pick up two quick wickets before the close.
Steve Smith departed for a duck after Tom Southee had him chopped on, while Marnus Labuschagne went for just two having nicked Southee down the leg-side to Blundell.
Labuschagne, 29, has scored only 22 runs in his past six Test innings, heaping pressure on his place in the XI.
Australia lead by 217 runs with eight wickets remaining.
