Jasprit Bumrah takes 6-45 as India take a stranglehold of the second Test on day two in Visakhapatnam.
Bumrah’s brilliance in steaming through the England middle order meant England limped to 253 in response to India’s 396 all-out.
This was his 10th Test fifer and second in India, reaching the landmark in just his 34th Test.
He also reached 150 Test wickets over the course of his devastating spell- the highlight being a reverse-swinging yorker that was too good for the in-form Ollie Pope and crashed into the stumps.
“There’s no demons in this wicket, Bumrah said.
“Yes, the odd ball might turn or swing. Even with the new ball, nothing was happening. It felt like you’d rather bowl with the old ball than the new ball.
“But I feel the wicket is really good. Hopefully we can capitalise tomorrow.”
Zak Crawley batted superbly for a 78 ball 76, laying another great platform with Ben Duckett, but his dismissal to Axar Patel after a loose shot triggered a major collapse of 6-68.
Kuldeep Yadav was also excellent on his return to the Test arena, snaffling 3-71 as England slipped from 114-1 to 182-7.
Ben Stokes threatened to cut loose and repeat his heroics of the first innings in Hyderabad, but Bumrah came back into the attack and bowled England’s captain for 47 within two deliveries.
Earlier in the day, Yashasvi Jaiswal brought up his first Test double ton before his dismissal to Jimmy Anderson for 209.
Anderson was the pick of the bowlers with 3-47 in 25 overs, the tourists doing fantastically well to reduce India to 396 after they added only 60 to their overnight score.
India later negotiated a tricky period before stumps to reach 28-0 at the close, a lead of 171 runs.
For England to claw their way back into the contest, they will need to make an almost immediate impact in the morning session tomorrow…
