Kyle Verreynne hit a stunning century but ended up on the losing side as Pretoria Capitals lost by 34 runs against MICT in a mammoth run-fest at SuperSport Park.
His knock of 116 in just 52 balls featured 7 fours and 9 sixes as the Capitals did extremely well to reach 214-8 having been reduced to 42-6 inside the powerplay.
Their chase of 249 began well with Will Jacks peppering the boundary, but his dismissal to a fabulous Kagiso Rabada yorker triggered a collapse of 6 wickets for 15 runs.
Nuwan Thusara (3-37) was the pick of the attack in knocking over Rilee Rossouw, Colin Ackermann and Shane Dadswell, while Rabada picked up the key wickets of Theunis de Bruyn and the in-form Jacks.
Earlier, Ryan Rickelton extended his lead at the top of the SA20 run-scoring charts after smashing 90 from 45 deliveries.
With three consecutive leg-side sixes way back into the crowd off Wayne Parnell, the left-hander looked destined to make his first century of the season.
Unfortunately for Rickelton, Parnell gained his revenge to trap him LBW, but Brevis continued the side’s brilliant momentum to smash his way back into form.
After a barren run of scores and questions over his place in his team, the 20-year old-old smoked an unbeaten 66 from 32 in his first fifty of the season.
The highlight of his knock was a no-look maximum which sailed deep into the crowd on the on-side, a feat which left commentators and fans in awe.
T20 veteran Kieron Pollard also chipped in with a destructive 27 from just 7 balls- him and Brevis combining for a partnership of 52 in only 14 balls.
MICT’s total of 20 sixes across the innings is a record in an SA20 match.
Daryn Dupavillon particularly suffered at the hands of Pollard and co- his 4 overs costing 73 runs.
Who’d be a bowler, eh?
Victory for MICT lifts them to fourth with 13 points, meanwhile Pretoria Capitals sit bottom with 10 points.
The two teams meet again on Saturday at Newlands.
