The hosts chased 26 without losing a wicket to secure a 10 wicket victory on day 3 in Adelaide.

Beginning the day 73-6, still trailing by 22, WI soon found themselves in deeper trouble- Starc taking two as Joshua Da Silva hooked a short ball to fine-leg and Alzarri Joseph edged behind.

Hazlewood then castled Gukadesh Motie for 3 to complete his five-wicket haul; the tourists in tatters at 94-9.

His haul of 9-79 across both innings gave Hazlewood his career-best match figures.

Shamar Joseph entertained with a quick-fire 15, but Nathan Lyon had him stumped with a clever piece of bowling.

Needing just 26 to win, the Aussies strolled to victory in 6.4 overs.

Opener Usman Khawaja was struck by a sharp bouncer after misjudging a delivery from Shamar Joseph, but Marnus Labuschagne replaced him to score the winning run on his second ball.

TV footage showed Khawaja spitting blood but scans have cleared him of any jaw damage.

He will be assessed before the second Test in Brisbane, however should he not be fit, the door may be open for Matthew Renshaw to make his return.

Renshaw, 27, made his debut in 2016 but has not featured in a Test since February 2023.

Windies captain Kraigg Brathwaite reflected on his team’s performance and said: “It’s not what we wanted and expected.

“Obviously bowling wise we did great, you know getting 10 wickets here in Australia, that was good.

“Batting wise, the top order we didn’t get going. Obviously Kirk [McKenzie] played well in first innings, but yeah we didn’t get the scores. That’s what let us down.”
