The hosts comfortably chased a target of 130 for the loss of two wickets to complete a 3-0 series whitewash at the SCG.

Warner, 37, was given a guard of honour and scored a fluent 57 in his final innings before being dismissed by off-spinner Sajid Khan.

He and Marnus Labuschagne combined for a second-wicket partnership of 119 in only 24 overs; the Aussies looking to be aggressive on a tricky surface.

“I want to be remembered as an entertainer, somebody who came on the scene from white-ball cricket, somebody who gave it his all”, Warner said.

“I’ve been authentic, I’ve never changed. I’ve said it how it is and I still will.

“Purely I’d just like to be remembered as someone who took the game on and left no stone unturned.”

Usman Khawaja fell LBW for nought in the first over, though Australia were unlikely to be properly troubled after the outstanding work of their bowlers on day three.

Labuschagne remained unbeaten on 62, while Steve Smith was not out with 4 having struck a boundary to seal victory.

Earlier on day 4, Pakistan were dismissed for just 115 as Nathan Lyon snaffled 3-36 and Josh Hazlewood finished with figures of 4-16.

Pakistan can take comfort in having their moments across the three tests, however they have now lost their 17 tests in Australia and remain without a win in the country since 1995.

Australia’s skipper Pat Cummins was deservedly awarded man of the series having taken 19 wickets an average of just 12.

Commenting on Warner and the now vacant opener’s slot, Cummins said: “We spend a lot of our lives on the road in hotel rooms, when there’s not much going on. Davey always brings that energy and excitement to the group. We’re going to miss him.

“It’s going to be really hard to replicate Davey and what he’s brought to it. You’ve got to be putting pressure on the opposition and ticking over the scoreboard.

“But realistically, if anyone is scoring runs in Shield cricket, that’s probably a good sign they can do it in the next level too.”

What’s next?

Australia welcome West Indies to Adelaide Oval for the first of two tests on January 16, meanwhile the tourists visit New Zealand for a five-match T20i series starting on January 12.
