Mohammad Rizwan and Aamer Jamal score brilliant fifties as Pakistan recover from 4-2 to post 313 on day one of the final test against Australia at the SCG.
Heading into the match with an unassailable two nil lead following a 79-run victory in Melbourne, the hosts began excellently as Mitchell Starc removed Abdullah Shafique for a second-ball duck when an edge was comfortably taken by Steve Smith in the slips.
Fellow opening bowler Josh Hazlewood then set the tone further, dismissing debutant Saim Ayub without troubling the scorers as an outside edge was easily caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
Premier batsman Babar Azam appeared in fine touch as he truck several stunning boundaries through the off-side, however Australian captain Pat Cummins struck in his second-over when a brilliant in-swinger smashed him on the pads.
The original decision was not-out yet a review from the hosts showed the ball to be hitting the middle of leg-stump.
Saud Shakeel then fell for five before captain Shan Masood was gone for a well-made 35, however Rizwan and the in-form Salman Agha were not keen to cower.
With a mixture of calculated aggression and timing, particularly on the sweep shot, the pair combined for a fantastic 93-run partnership before Cummins returned to dismiss Rizwan for 88 following a sharp catch on the fine-leg boundary by Hazlewood.
Agha later joined him in the pavilion when he chipped to Travis Head at short mid-wicket, although a surprise contribution from tailender Aamer Jamal propelled the tourists to a respectable total of 313 all-out as they added 86 runs for the final wicket.
His brilliant knock of 82 from 97 deliveries featured nine fours and four wonderful sixes before he was removed by Nathan Lyon.
The pick of the bowlers, Pat Cummins, registered five for 61 as he continued the sparkling form he displayed at the MCG.
In reply, Australia safely negotiated themselves to six without loss at the close.
David Warner is unbeaten on six in his final test, meanwhile his opening partner Usman Khawaja is yet to face a ball.
