Laurie Evans smashed a magnificent 85 from 28 balls as Perth Scorchers comfortably defeated the Adelaide Strikers by 42 runs at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Entering the crease at 96 for three following the dismissal of Josh Inglis in the 13th over, Evans smoked seven fours and seven maximums as the Strikers attack had no answers for the brilliant shot-making of the Englishman.

Henry Thornton and Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton were impressive in taking two wickets apiece, however fellow pacer James Bazley had a particularly tough day at the hands of Evans as his three overs went for 57 costly runs.

Opener Sam Whiteman was also fantastic with the bat, striking 31 off 21 balls in an innings of one four and three sixes.

The Strikers started nicely in their mammoth chase of 212 as Matt Short and Chris Lynn got going, however the latter’s dismissal ended an explosive 45-run partnership.

Thomas Kelly ably supported Short with a knock of 29, but the visitors finished well short as Overton, Bazley and Nielsen all fell for single-digit scores attempting to up the run-rate.

Lance Morris was the standout performer taking five for 24 across his four overs, including the key wicket of Short for 74.

AJ Tye and Jhye Richardson also chipped in with two wickets apiece.

The Scorchers move to second and remain unbeaten with a record of four wins and one no-result from five fixtures.

Contrastingly, Adelaide Strikers sit bottom of the pile having won just once in six games!
